OK. I admit. I've downloaded some movies from some bit torrent sites. Hell, one was Peter Pan for my kids.

I bought an external DVD burner (LG) at Best Buy yesterday...tried to burn the movie...NOPE! Then I tried some TV shows...sorry.

Apparently a lot of this stuff is in .avi format...what the hell do I do? Any freeware out there??? Is it always this tough?

And Windows Movie Maker comes free on a PC... granted it doesn't burn DVDs, but DVD burners weren't in the consumer space when XP was made. Vista will have it native.

To burn DVD's that are playable on a standard DVD player, starting from generic video files, I use Nero. It costs, but it's worth it. It's SUPER easy.

Maybe, but MS was more worried about making money than appeasing the multimedia geek.

making home movies into playable dvd's and organizing photos & music while being able to do all the same home computer stuff pc's can do makes someone a multimedia geek? whatelse is a home computer for outside of surfing the net and writing word files? the way ipods and digital cameras have taken over, i really don't see your point...pc's have been selling multimedia pc's for years and they're still behind

I mean they made geared their software towards businesses, where MOST people don't need a DVD burner to do their jobs.

I wish everything Windows before Vista had come with integrated DVD. But I gotta eat, and picking that over everything else I needed wasn't going to get it.
