Panthers | Team ranks first in median salary for 2005 season
    Sat, 8 Jul 2006 17:35:12 -0700

USA Today reports the Carolina Panthers ranked No. 1 in the NFL in median salary for the 2005 season at $820,720, according to USA Today's salary database. The team was ranked No. 8 in total payroll at $90,207,818.

So they have the lowest average salary and the eighth highest overall payroll?

Meaning we have more 500k-1 mil players and a handful of Peppers and DelHommes

I just hope we don't have to go through what the Titans have had to go through. Cutting veterans and having 10-15 million dead money

No, I don't see any massive purge in the near future. With an expanded salary cap, and our knack for getting good production from "overachievers", it should never get to that point.

Median is not the average. Median is the number in the middle. They lined up all the salaries in numerical order and found the number with the same number of salaries on either side of it.

So if I understand this correctly, it is a good thing we are ranked number one, means we are spreading the money around equaly to all players. If its lower it means you have a few very high dollar players with mostly low cost players to fill the holes. Or just a lot of low cost players period.
