Panthers | Colbert working on kickoff returns
    Tue, 13 Jun 2006 13:12:51 -0700

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers WR Keary Colbert has been working in practice as a kickoff returner.

Panthers | Marshall working on kickoff returns
    Tue, 13 Jun 2006 13:12:49 -0700

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers rookie CB Richard Marshall has been working in practice as a kickoff returner. Marshall has limited experience at returning kickoffs and has not held the position full-time since his freshman season at Fresno State.

Panthers | D. Williams could play special teams role
    Tue, 13 Jun 2006 13:12:44 -0700

The Associated Press reports while it is unlikely Carolina Panthers rookie RB DeAngelo Williams will start at running back this season, special teams coach Danny Crossman believes Williams can play a major role on special teams. "As long as DeAngelo's role puts him in a position where he can (return kickoffs) and he's not overwhelmed with the offense, it will be a good thing for us on special teams," said Crossman. The team hopes RB DeShaun Foster can stay healthy so Williams will not be relied upon as much on offense, so they can use him on special teams.

Interesting about Colbert. He seems to run with enough power and just enough speed, so he might help us there. I'm thinking that Robertson's days could be numbered.

neat. Only new news there is Colbert, but that's a welcome addition. Colbert and Williams or Marshall as needed, as well as Marshall and Gamble rotating at PR, gives us more talent there than we've realistically ever had at those two spots, other than when Smitty double dipped.

PR, yes. KR, I think Michael Bates might have something to say about that. :)

we had bates. And what else? We had crap for PR.
I'm not saying these guys are pro bowlers, either. Just that we have four guys to throw at it that are as talented as any players we've ever had returning, save Smitty.

Agreed about PR, and obviously with the Smitty exception. Gamble has shown signs of being decent, but I'm hoping either DW or Marshall can take this role and run with it, so to speak.
