Okay, I know debating QB3 is about as interesting as watching grass grow, but hey -- it's May. :)

On paper, the two look very similar in the measurables. I've heard that LeFors may have the edge in arm strength, and maybe accuracy, too. But from what I can tell, Basanez may read better and may have better intangibles (leadership and passion, specifically). As of right now, I think Basanez has a real shot at unseating LeFors.

    What do y'all think?

LeFors has been in the system a year and they seem to think highly of him. My guess would be that both stick with Baz going to the PS for this year. Next year, it will be a full blown #3 QB controversy.

Your take on thier respective skill levels is dead on IMO, except I would say they are even in the accuracy department.

if lefors has him beat in arm strength he couldn't even throw the smoke route.

From Pat Y.'s May 8th blog:

It’s way too early to read much into this, but undrafted free agent quarterback Brett Basanez may have a shot to steal the No. 3 job from Stefan LeFors. Basanez has a stronger arm and looked good at times. But, at other times, it was obvious he’s learning a new system.

I think we are fucked if it comes down to either of them.

Basanez would have to have a soggy noodle to have a weaker arm than LeFors

Don't think he has much of a shot. LeFors showed some ability last preseason, and he's advanced in the system. I'm sure he'll get more looks through camp and August, but I don't expect him to make the 53. If he does some things over that time, they could place him on PS.

I'd hate to lose LeFors. He's autographed everything I have sent him. But you do need someone to run the practice squad. Didn't they increase the number of players you can have on the squad this year?

basanez will probably stick on the PS if he doesn't handily beat LeFors. Since Stefan was inactive but on the roster, he's not going to go to the PS, I don't believe, and since he was a 4th rounder, the team's going to shade toward him anyway. After another year, they could fight it out and

Overall, there's not that much different. They both can move around, but neither are that fast; Basanez has more arm but less accuracy, more size and height. He's also less consistent, but makes more plays. Think of them as the same skill level but with tradeoffs in most categories.

I wasn't particularly happy with the Lefors drafting. He's safe, but he's got too little potential. He just doesn't seem as good as a 4th round QB would be, but I've had thoughts like that about other Panthers picks (especially this year) that just leave me a little baffled.
