Who actually censors the songs that are played on the radio? Is it the station, or the studio? I ask because more an more, it seems the decisions on what to censor and what not to censor are gettng more arbitrary.

When I used to work in commercial radio, we would get a "radio version" of a song so I assume the studio does them after a ratings board tells them what to cut out.

Still surprises me to this day that classic rock stations play The Who's "Who Are You" unedited. I mean, "who the fuck are you" is as plain as day.

that's the kind of thing that got me thinking about it. a station will play two different songs with the same word in it... one will be edited, and one wont. The other thing that gets me is that in the same song they'll let "******" slide, but edit "green" (in ref. to pot).
