Lewis might be better, judging by what we usually do, but it might not hurt to have a guy who can eat space for our blitzing linebackers.

Lewis will probably be that reserve that spells Kemo during known passing downs, and really just whenever a guy that big needs to catch his breath.

Kemoeatu was regularly picked up by just one lineman in pass protection. Moreover, ideally you want to create space for a blitzing linebacker, not to clog it up. Getting pressure up the middle was a big problem for us last season, and while a healthy Jenkins should solve most of that, putting Lewis in there would make our pass rush truly fearsome.

Wouldn't it stand to reason that Kemo could create as much (if not more) space for a blitzer that Lewis, in that he can re-route a G/C with pure strength. And I know that Kemo is massive, but I would think he might have an easier time widening a line gap that Lewis. Clearly, Lewis is going to be the three technique guy, but does shooting the gap do a blitzer any more of a favor than a two-gapper simply re-directing him laterally? (Buck tried this quite a bit here, and would get flagged for holding at least 5 times a year.)

Hey, he's here to stop the run. I get that. But I think he can do some damage in passing situations. Just not as the guy that gets the sack.

No, he really can't. Believe me, I was hoping the same after hearing how much we gave him, but I looked at a number of Baltimore games and I'm convinced that he's useless against the pass. You'd think he could simply bull rush his way into the backfield, but it didn't happen. And it would be nearly impossible for a DT to redirect a C/G laterally when they're giving ground in pass pro. You can do it in the run game because they're attempting to come forward and you can get an angle, but it's not really possible against the pass.

Generally, the other team doesn't sit there and wait for you to put in a nickel defense with your ideal personnel for them to pass, obviously. So it's not as if Kemoeatu will never see a pass while on the field, again, obviously. That leaves the rest as reacting to something that probably isn't there. I do beleive he could be molded into someone who could push a pile, and I have no doubt he'll bat a few balls this year, but there's nothing there that says they're going to keep him out there all three downs, so we might look to not react to it that way.

Well if you've seen the tape, and he ain't making an impact, then he probably won't start making one now. So, just eat up a body, and free shit up for whoever's subbing for Morgan. I can live with that, if it means no more of what we saw on Christmas Eve.
