That would be sick. I think White will be really good at the NFL level

I dont see him droppin that far, simply for the (albeit minor, maybe 10 spots in the draft) USC hype factor.

The interesting tidbit was that Larry Johnson and Ray Lewis were picked at that spot.

Lendale White is for sure Foxie's type of player. No way we pass that up if he's available.

It just seems to me that White doesn't fit into Fox's way of doing things. To not give Shelton a good chance to practice and play with the first and second teams is to throw a high pick out the door in some respects. If White were here Shelton and Goings would have to be demoted automatically and that's just not Fox like.

On the other hand, a high round OLB would most certainly get playing time as a backup and competitor to Seward. Draft gets playing time as backup to Morgan and the other LB spot is not even deep with TD and Choo choo.

Maybe RB is the bigger need but a first rounder, IMDO, just doesn't fit well.

it's not really throwing things away at all. We'll always need two backs. We'll always need at least two, really. pass-first or run-first, our backs take a beating, because we'll always be running at the end of games. I like that, but our methods leave backs taking punishment. If Shelton comes to play, awesome. If we have too many good backs, that's really not such a huge concern. You hate to waste effort, picks, or money, but getting a good back generally pays dividends.

As it is, I'm as worried that a year from now we're moving Shelton to FB to make use of him. There's uncertainty with Foster, there's uncertainty with Shelton. IMO, Goings' success was no small part a function of the pass-first philosophy we had to employ at that point, and hadn't seen him run like that before, or since.

Another back is welcome in my book, Shelton or not. Doesn't have to be a first, just like LB and S don't have to be firsts. We've done fairly well, a few money things aside, keeping us from being forced to go get this one spot. But using that logic, you'd as well say that because we have Ellison, and have Jenkins, and Carstens, there's no way we'd need to go get a tackle, Buckner gone or not. And it was where we've spent as much as anywhere.

Wrong again, but it's understandable that you'd think this simply because our two main running backs under Fox have been one guy who consistently got hurt (Stephen Davis got injured every year except 2001) and a guy who consistently gets hurt even more often (Foster). Quite a few teams have running backs who consistent carry the ball 300 times a year, we just need to find one of those guys. If we had a young Curtis Martin, we'd never need another back (although you should always try to have depth because freak injuries can happen to anyone). There is nothing about our offense that makes it more punishing than every other offense that gets by with just one RB.

That said, you can never have too many RBs and I certainly wouldn't mind adding someone who can allow us to jettison Foster next year if he doesn't have the Pro Bowl season people have been hoping for.
