    I could get behind this

"...the playoff expansion proposal is gaining support for a couple of reasons. By increasing the number of playoff teams by one in each conference, it would add two additional playoff games, which the league would either be able to put on the NFL Network or sell to one of their broadcast partners. Either way, it means more revenue.

Second, the league was concerned about the number of teams that rested players in the final week or two of the season, turning the games into little more than late-December exhibition bouts. By expanding the playoffs to 14 teams, just one team in each conference would get a first-round bye."

I think it is a bad idea. If you have a league where half the teams make the playoffs it tends to make the regular season less meaningful. If they do this they ought to make it a requirement that you must win 10 games to get in the playoffs. That way if there are enough good teams to go then you get more teams if there are not then you do not get teams with losing records in the playoffs. I think you would have teams with losing records making it in if you expand. Teams are getting in at 8-8 now.

No, as I understand it, Wildcard weekend would have 3 games per conference with only one bye, then 2 game (divisional), then 1 (Conference), then 1 (Superbowl). Four weeks (5 including media week), like current.

    Wildcard
    1st seed gets bye
    2nd plays 7th
    3rd plays 6th
    4th plays 5th

It's fucking stupid. Even in 1999, and 2004, I was against it. It's sloppy.

It would work, with the #1 seed having the 1st round bye. I just don't like the idea of expanding the playoffs. The more spots available, the less of an accomplishment it is to get one.

Too many mediocre teams get in now as it is. Why the fuck should a team bust their asses to get the #2 spot only to have to play a 7-9 team that has nothing to lose? You get players hurt over a useless game.
