Detroit News, reports local television affiliates were removed from the sidelines under a policy adopted Tuesday, March 28, by the NFL owners. They no longer will be allowed on the sidelines during games, which prevents them from shooting footage to show on news and highlight shows.

Seriously, this is bullshit. NFL wants all on-field highlights to be under the umbrella of NFL Films. I assure you that this is the root of the issue. And I love NFL Films, but it's nonsense to remove local photogs.

I don't know that it's complete horseshit. Stations can use the network feeds which 90 percent of the time is better stuff than the affiliates can get. It would suck, though.

I hope the NFL isn't planning on making this an NCAA tournament thing where we have to record clean feeds of the truck. Shooting the game gives each station a chance to do different things with their video--and we get shots the networks dont usually provide--just talking cutaways and stuff.

    I hope this ain't true.

EDIT--nothing of this mentioned at the NFL's media site.

Wow, between videogames, tv network exclusivity (DTV), and sideline coverage, everything's got a price. Very disappointing if true. Frankly I'm a little tired of everyone benefitting from the fan support of the NFL BUT the fans. The fans didn't win when there was no NFL 2k6 (and I'm a madden fanboy), the fans don't win with D*TV (if you lived in NYC you're basically SOL), and the fans don't win with this.

Same report, I guess this is where he got it from:
