The more I think about this the more I wonder who the "source" was. If it was Proehl or a representative of Proehl that would anger me. it would seem as though at a minimum Rozinski would have talked to Proehl to gauge his reaction...................:ylsuper: oh well........

Chances are Proehl doesn't take any offers in the off-season and if (God forbidden) something happens to one of our receivers, he gets a call. He knows the offense and WILL keep himself in game shape (especially if he's only playing 10-12 snaps anyway). He's an insurance policy. Great player and invited into the lockeroom any time he wants but our young kids need a trun to show what they can do too. Hankton gets another year or two I'm guessing.

Thats true, I doubt we'll change either of our plays.

Yup, Bill is bitter. Heard one of his broadcasts last year and he was taking shots at the Panthers every chance he had. It was both sad and annoying.

I like Proehl, and he's had a lot of good moments in a Panthers uniform. But I wish he'd live in the real. He's not a team captain (which is the ONLY reason Hankton's still on the team), he's 38 years old, and he'd be fighting for a 4th WR spot on a team that 1) usually activates Hankton as its WR4, and 2) already has a young WR4 in Carter who has shown flashes of being productive. Not to mention a 2nd round draft pick ahead of both of them who, granted, screwed the pooch in '05 but actually had a fairly decent rookie season.

Even if we did bring him back for a swan song year, what would be the point if he was inactive almost every week?

Proehl had a great year, for Ricky Proehl. Even Art Monk, Jerry Rice, and Charlie Joiner didn't play past 40.

Without a replacement for Hankton, there's just not a roster spot available for another WR. I just don't see any way Ricky comes back in here with a guy like Johnson, a healthier Colbert, a more experienced Carter, and a possible new TE, and catches more than 15 balls. Plus I think Foster starting the season as the starter is going to take some catches away from the WR's.

And if Hankton is going to get cut, they need to do it before the teams votes on captains again

My understanding is this is Bill saying this, and not Proehl himself? I would think Ricky would understand and not be bitter - disappointed certainly, but not angry. That just doesn't sound like Ricky since I don't recall him bad mouthing any of his previous teams for letting him go in his most productive seasons. I had heard even before the signing of Keyshawn that if they did sign Johnson. they might not have room for Proehl because of the fact they didn't feel it would be fair to him to compete for a job in camp and possibly be cut before the season - that to me is classy. Now if Proehl called them back and said "Please I want to take a shot and understand I may be on the street come Sept" then that might be a different case. I do hope they didn't just "leave a message on an answering machine" - that IS a bit cold and classless.

I just think Ros has too many personal issues with the Panthers that I wouldn't put a great deal of stock in his take when it comes to the team.

As to Proehl being a receivers coach - I'd love it, but that's Williamson's job - do you have TWO WR coaches?

Sam Mills was an assistant before becoming a full linebackers coach. Players who make the transition once their career is over usually go that route. I'd welcome it.

and Williamson is getting up there in years. He did say that he still wants to play, though, and I think he still has something to offer somewhere.
