Is there any reason to draft a QB with the top 10 picks in the draft?

Hate to say it but I don't think you can call Michael Vick a bust yet. He should probably be on Collin's list. Also, Kerry Collins has been to 2 NFC championship games and 1 super bowl appearance as the starting QB. Great? No. Bust? No.

Collins is a perfect example of a QB that lacks what it takes to be great.....all the tools, but none of the heart

and who else? I mean, it's easier to come up with successful safeties than WRs.

If it was, it's only because expectations were too high. He was solid long before getting to the Jets, and while he was less than stellar with Tampa (the team that drafted him), a lot of that had to do with the team around him. Although I must say that 35 interceptions in one season is just about reason enough to label someone a bust regardless of what they do in the rest of your career (listening, Brett? Retire already). But no, he was solid with the Browns and arguably great for the Ravens before getting to the Jets.

That said, you make an interesting point about when a player blossoms. A separate study I did also showed that quarterbacks peak much later than other positions, so even if one does become great, a fair amount of the time it isn't with the team that drafted him.

Regarding WRs, the problem isn't the position so much as the fact that certain guys are obvious reaches. Did I or did I not tell you all about Williamson? Then I think we all knew Reggie Williams would be a bust. Meanwhile I wouldn't classify Andre Johnson as a bust. I think he's more of a beast in waiting, he just needs better QB production and a better offensive line. Larry Fitzgerald is probably off to a good start in terms of being worth it as well, although I'd agree with those who would argue that he hasn't quite lived up to the billing yet. Charles Rogers is the one that surprises me, though, because I really felt like he had all the tools you'd want from a receiver except perhaps bulk. He looked so polished at Michigan State that it's surprising to see him be as bad as he has been.

Of those, I'd say Holt actually met expectations completely. Keyshawn's had stats, but only five really decent years, and those were his first five.

Johnson's been good, and should be very good with Kubiak. if he's healthy. Up to now, not anywhere near a #3 overall should be, but good.

Williamson where he went, was too high. Sure. He was awful compared to what I thought he'd be, yeah. He should come around. Agreed on Rogers, and I'm still way beyond figuring where Rashaun Woods went wrong (though that's obviously not a top ten pick), since players are capable of not being elite in 40 and still producing at least something.
