I was thinking they had low TV revenue though. That's generally what they base the markets on.

That's because the team is run by smart people. They're making money in a small market. Small market teams are complaining they can't compete vs big market teams, but a lot of those teams could make more money if they put a better product on the field. Look at the top 10 alone. You've got Chicago, San Fran, Atlanta and Detroit. You know damned well they could have better numbers than they do if they would run their businesses with some responsibility.

Then again Washington has a fool at its helm, but apparently he's making enough money that he could care less how much his team's gonna suck.

I've heard that the Panthers' premium seating cost are higher than others, and Jer doesn't want to share the $$$. He's got a gold mine on the club seats and suites. Guaranteed sold out each year.

panthers own the stadium though. the non-shared revenue that seems to be the sticking point has a good bit dealing with stadium take, as well as income from local media and sponsoring. other than the argument that "well, that's the way the league works" why should those things be shared? did the cardinals help fund and build the stadium?

Looking at the wrong metrics. The size of the market does not matter, it is the value of the team. Based on the 2004 valuations of all pro sports franchises, the list makes a little more sense

    http://www.teenanalyst.com/business/franchisevalues.html

    Redskins #1 overall #1 NFL
    Cowboys #2 overall #2 NFL
    Panthers #5 overall #4 NFL
    Broncos #8 overall #7 NFL
    Patriots #9 overall #8 NFL
    Eagles #17 overall #16 NFL
    Giants #18 overall #17 NFL
    Jets #19 overall #18 NFL

Report did not include the Texans, but I imagine in 2006 they are a top 20 pro franchise in terms of value.
