Canada claims eight years ago they learned their lesson of not going for the most skilled players, but finding players that fill roles necessary for a successful hockey team. Messier may be older, but he is a fierce competetor and the greatest captain and natural leader in the history of hockey. Two losses now, controversy surrounding Gretzky and Bertuzzi- leadership is their greatest need. If Canada does not win gold it can blamed upon neglecting the most underrated aspect of the sport. Joe Sakic was once a great player, but I never considered him a leader. Give me Messier or Lindors and Canada walks away with gold.

Do you have anything to add or are you going to continue to come on here and takes shots at me? I understand that it may be frustrating to wish something was not true and yet be totally unable to intelligently refute it. Canada's #1 problem right now is leadership, they blew it. Can you prove otherwise?

dude, first of all Messier retired. he wasn't considered for any part of Team canada.

2nd, their big problem, much the USA, is their inability to score goals. The int'l game is FAR different from the NHL game--wider ice surface is played throughout the world, and the N. Americans are having trouble with it.

There. Now you can go back to babbling about how Messier's "leadership" (fro.m a wheelchair basically) would be helping Team Canada win more games. Mess would be making canada worse, no matter how "rah rah" he was in the room.

    have to agree with solarte!

The wider ice is making a difference in the player positions.

To much space between the d and fowards on brake outs.
So the trap closes the door to any offence.

Playing too wide on the power play. And to much down low. European team colapse on the goalie so point shots should be used more often.

Look at the numbers..... pp on the rocks and 5 on 5 sucks = no goals.

    Leadership aint an issue.

I was so pumped for Olympics, but with this time differnce I've missed so much. On the Pens board and on XM, and AAA too, people keep saying they want it to go back to Ametuers. One argument is that we went pro because Russia was pretty much pros, but by the time we switched (98 I think?) so much had changed and the best Russian pros were hear. Anyway, my point is I love the way it's set up, All-Star game after All-Star game. And these guys really do care about winning it for their country I believe. I think as much as ametuers do. I just think it's the most fun to see the best vs the best, and not in a lame ass all star game.
I'm toasted and talking in circles, but have you guys been watching? The forum is pretty quiet considering.
Malkin is suspended for the semi-finals, kicked Lecalvier. Dumb ass. I keep hearing those Russians are a cocky crew. That wasn't cocky, just dumb shit.

I would say that you are right about guys wanting to win for love of country, but I can not agree that holds true for Team USA. Other than the 3rd period against Finland, they went through the motions.

but the loss will affect the Canadians more--they have heart and pride, unlike most of the stiffs in the USA sweaters.
