UNREAL action. been watching the games all morning on MSNBC. Canada dusted Italy 7-2, but cooler than that, a buddy I know from back home in Chicago was playing for Italy.

Apparently, having Italian bloodline is enough to get you to play for them. Sweet deal, but Canada scored a PP goal while he was boxed on a charging call.

Kind of surprising the score wasn't more lopsided than that. Hockey and Italy aren't two things I associate with each other.

again, apparently bloodlines back to Italy qualify you to play for them, so there were guys like Jason Muzzati playing for them (G), and opthers with some NHL experience. Nardella (the guy I know) has been a career minor leaguer, and he is born in the USA.

ends in a 3-3 tie. May as well have been a Latvian win.

A brutal way to start, but if history is anything, the 1980 team opened Olympic play with a tie against Sweden 2-2.

The US team just isn't that good imo. I wasn't at all impressed with what I saw of them vs Latvia. A Bronze medal would be a major achievement for this bunch.

OTOH, the Russia v Slovakia game was as entertaining a game as you could want. Constant action from one end of the ice to the other. There was a hell of a lot of talent on the ice in that game. That was the best game I saw today.

With the way Jagr has been tearing through the NHL this season it will not even be close the Chezk Republic will win the gold. I do not know how serious Haseks' injury is but you know it will not matter because they can just rely on pure offense.
With all the turmoil surrounding team Canada because of the alleged gambling ring you know Canada is kicking itself for not bringing in Messier for his leadership. I do not know what Wayne was thinking when he left Messier off the roster.

    probably something like....

Messier is retired, and can not keep up with the pace of international hockey anymore.
