Panthers | Peppers changes agents; may need to restructure contract
    Thu, 9 Feb 2006 18:19:16 -0800

Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panthers DE Julius Peppers has switched from agent Marvin Demhoff to agent Carl Carey. Carey has only been a certified agent since Aug. 15, 2005. One of Carey's first duties as Peppers' agent is likely to be a contract restructuring. Peppers has a salary cap figure of nearly $15 million for 2006. The Panthers are about $6 million over the expected cap limit ($92 million) right now and likely will try to lower Peppers' cap number.

Cool. Lower his cap figure and add years to his contract :trophy:

Peppers gets new agent; new deal next?

Very quietly, Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers has switched agents. Peppers parted ways with Marvin Demhoff, one of the most powerful agents in NFL circles.

Peppers is now represented by Carl Carey, who has only been a certified agent since Aug. 15, 2005. But Peppers’ ties to Carey run deep. Carey was Peppers’ academic advisor at the University of North Carolina and has been an advisor and mentor to Peppers throughout his professional career.

One of Carey’s first duties as Peppers’ agent is likely to be a contract restructuring. Peppers has a salary cap figure of nearly $15 million for 2006. The Panthers are about $6 million over the expected cap limit ($92 million) right now and likely will try to lower Peppers’ cap number. Peppers has a $5.5 million base salary and the Panthers can convert most of that into bonus money to spread over a contract that runs through 2008.

But there also is the possibility, Peppers, Carey and the Panthers could try to work on a contract extension. In that scenario, the Panthers likely would free up a lot more cap room, but would have to pay Peppers a huge signing bonus.

If we are going to sign him long term with a huge signing bonus Lets go ahead and sign him to a 10 year deal and end his career here.

He is the rare guy you do not mind sinking a lot of money into for the long term.

Amen to that! I would hate to see Julius in another uniform, it just wouldn't be right.

If Pep wears the uniform of another team,I might as well cut my wrists and bleed into a cup.

As a lifelong Duke supporter, nothing would make me sadder than seeing Pep suit up for someone else. We've gotta keep him home, this kid is special.

Honestly, I think Peppers is the type of guy that will stay here for good. He is a self proclaimed homebody...once he gets comfortable, he doesnt like to change it up...him switching agents is a testiment to that...if anyone remembers that ESPN The Magazine article from his rookie year, this new agent of his was one of the only people he really trusted completely at UNC...he advised him on all of his academics, and his decision to enter the draft and not play bball...he's in Charlotte, grew up in Bailey, and will probably stay here a very long time, and probably wont try to break the bank either, at least that my guess.
