    Sun Feb 5, 2006 --from FFMastermind.com

Ron Borges, reporting for the Boston Globe, notes the Players Association announced the 2006 franchise and transition numbers and, as expected, the cost of tagging a potential free agent player has gone up. The franchise tag for quarterbacks will be $8,789,000 and the transition tag $8,327,000. For defensive ends, it's $8,332,000 and $7,075,000, and for linebackers it's $7,169,000 and $6,144,000. For wide recievers, it's $6,172,000 and $5,160,000. After that comes offensive linemen, who carry a franchise tag of $6,983,000 and a transition tag of $6,391,000. Running backs now have a franchise tag of $6,085,000 and $5,153,000. Cornerbacks will have a franchise tag of $5,893,000 and a transition tag of $4,744,000, followed by defensive tackles, whose numbers will be $5,656,000 and $4,463,000. After that, safeties will be tagged at a cost of $4,109,000 and $3,592,000. Last among position players comes tight end, who now carry a franchise tag of $3,327,000 and a transition tag of $2,718,000. Of all the positions, kickers and punters received the highest percentage increase, up to $2,468,000 and $2,045,000. The franchise number is arrived at by averaging the top five salaries at the position. The transition tag is arrived at by averaging the top 10.
