On December 2, 1995, the hockey world changed for both Patrick Roy and the Montreal Canadiens in what was supposed to be another Saturday night game at The Forum.
At home to face the Detroit Red Wings, the Habs played their worst home game in franchise history, losing in a 12-1 blowout.
TSN's sister station in Quebec RDS is running a tenth anniversary special looking back on the infamous night that changed the Canadiens' fortune for years.
Roy was kept in goal by then head coach Mario Tremblay for the first nine goals, and the Forum fans jeered him when he made an easy save.
Embarrassed, Roy raised his hands in mock celebration. When he was finally pulled, he stormed past Tremblay and told team president Ronald Corey that he had played his last game in bleu, blanc et rouge.

For the record, Detroit went on to win 62 games that year, Montreal would go on to win 40. You, being a goalie, should know there are nights when you have it, and some nights when you don't. Roy gettin shelled AT HOME should have been enough for Tremblay to pull him BEFORE the 9th goal went in. Instead, Tremblay COMPLETELY DISRESPECTED one of, if not the, greatest goaltenders of all time.

And you say the fans are right.

Go play in traffic, you friggin frog idiot. I'm done with you.

Yall can't see the truth here because of that thing between your legs.

Roy should have been pulled yes.
He also should not have acted like such a big baby. He sucked. He should have admitted it to himself, and the fans, and gotten over it. Big deal.

Again...that thing between his legs prevented him from seeing the truth.

you see, that was my point. Tremblay shoulda yanked him WAY before he was getting embarassed. You don't leave Pat Roy in there to get shelled, when it obviously isn't his night. tremblay was trying to make Roy look bad against the (at the time) best team in the league. Thats just low class on the coach's part.

I've hated Roy ever since that incident. A real competitor would want to play and work through it, not demand to get traded because he didn't get benched. Did he and Tremblay have an issue prior to this? I never even considered Tremblay purposely trying to embarrass Waah.

there was prior to that incident.

Tremblay didn't have his tongue in his pocket and Patrock had never had anybody stnd up to him before.

you just dont embarass one of the all time greats--in any sport. that would be like benching, say, Lemieux over a turnover that led to a goal or something. Goalies are a different breed--just ask Slans. We have no CLUE what he is.
