I agree - I want to go with the Onkyo 7.1 one. But I am not the only person in this equation. The add one speakers may have to be a trade off.

how big is your room? I think you will need to be in a pretty large room to motice a differnce of 7.1 as opposed to 5.1 sound.

About 20 x 30. It wouldn't be a big deal because I already have 4 sets of speakers there positioned where I would need the 2 sides and 2 rear ones. The only proble is actually where to put the subwoofer.

Like I said though, I think that the tv speakers are going to be a trade off for me getting all of this. I think that the speakers will be in addition to, not instead of though.

You must get the industrial. Not only is it insanely cheaper, but you avoid the ugly bezel and you gain 720p...in the 7uy and earlier series, at least, the industrial processed a 720p signal, the commercial would not. Go figure...

And no, you don't need HDMI. What purpose would there be for that when you are almost never going to hook up your speakers to the TV anyway...they go to your stereo, so all you need is component or DVI, although HDMI isn't a problem, just not worth any money.

Is it worth the $1K difference in price?

$1k over what? an EDTV plasma?

    1080p versus 480p

Up to you. I can stand in front of the Sony at BB for 20 minutes, just marveling at the picture.

    Jes.

If it would fit in my room, or if they made it in 42" I would be buying it.

Over the same 50 inch Sony with LCD. You seem skeptical of LCoS. Or that's what I took from that post.

Our Best Buy didn't have one in stock right now or I would've stood in front of it for a while like HH suggested. We were looking at the 55 inch from Sony at the time. See the link above.

Oh, no way in hell would I pay BB's outrageous price for the LCoS set. You can get them online for about $800 less. The shipping charge is = 9% sales tax, so that's pretty much a wash.

I guess the real question is, would I pay $300 or $400 more for it? You betcha. It's the only TV capable of showing 1080p, although it confounds me that it doesnt have a 1080p input (1080i max).

In all honesty, I think I should wait for gen #2 of that SXRD, which will probably be thinner, lighter, wont have the weird side speakers, and will have 1080p input so no conversion at all for true HD. But as of now, vp isnt kidding, that picture whoops ass.
