First off I'm a fan of Jake. He could be better sometimes. When he is on there are not many better, when he if off there are not many worse. So let's not take this to a Delhomme bashing thread. But my question is if Smitty has 4 guys on him, why would you throw to him? Is it lack of confidence in the other receivers. Lack of ablity for other receivers to get open. Or does Smitty think he's the only one that can do anything and demand the ball. Is it lack of chemistry or what. Jake has spread the ball around before. Although Colbert,Carter have yet to consistly prove the ability Ricky Prohl is a gamer. It was a strange season and maybe with better running Jake could have spread the ball around. Just wanted to get you guys thoughts on it.

No way is Jake the problem. Occasionally he has been a problem, but while I'd love to have a guy who doesn't give me stomach ulcers, he still does more good than bad. And if he could ever cut down on his annoyingly frequent bouts of stupidity, he could be really good.

Or perhaps improper/inadeqate coaching of the QB position.

This is what gets me. How can Fox be so good but not see that he needs a new QB coach? It doesn't make sense.

Not to be rude Mike, but couldn't we just have thrown this into one of the 37,000 "Jake Delhomme is the problem" threads.

But as long as we're here.....

No. He is not the problem. His three interceptions on Sunday were a problem. Just as his three touchdown passes in Chicago were instumental in the win.

Jake needs to improve. That's no secret. I would like to see him develop better footwork. I would like to see this offense grow next year. I want a better screen game (and not just smoke routes to 89). I would like to see more production in weeks 1-6 from Delhomme.

But "the problem?" He is not.

I don't believe he's that big of a problem. He makes this offense much less bland, makes plays, and makes things that aren't otherwise there, which is awesome for a guy who doesn't run around like Vick.

He has his issues, and this year was problematic from INTs.

And yes, we need better QBs coaching, or since Henning is the default QB coach, we need someone here who does more than signal in plays during a game. I can suppose, but not state with authority, that Henning doesn't typically put as much work into Jake as is necessary during a week, but you know for certain that he's not getting it during games.

Seriously. Why start this thread? There are only about fifty billion threads that are already about how Jake had a bad game, along with the 44 other guys that dressed and a couple guys that had headsets.

It seems to me that since Peete has gone, Jake makes more mistakes. Was Peete the defacto QB coach that settled Jake down and kept him focused? I think so, and now that hes gone he has lost that guy that he can turn to on the sideline when he is confused, or just needs an ear to listen. As one of the disturbing duo said, (cant remember if it was Colin or Magnus), we need a QB coach but will never have on as long as Henning has a say in it.

For Mags (the resident WCO guy)--

How would JD fare in the NFL's current variations of the WCO? Just tryin' to salvage the thread.

I think it might be case of "tunnel vision." Jake has a target in mind when he breaks the huddle. He fixates on that target and is not likely to look elsewhere. This is why we got so excited when Jake started hitting checkdown recievers and taking better care of the ball.
