Yeah, I'll take him. I think the guy's awesome, which is why I don't down him at every opportunity.

5 years, $38 million is not ten million per year. It's not nine million per year. It's $7.6 mil per year.

It's flattering to be mentioned in the same breath with Peyton Manning but we are different players. He's been doing his thing for a long time and I'm sure he'll get to a Super Bowl someday.

Dude, you're the absolute last person that can talk about holding grudges against players/coaches/posters, etc. Moreover, I do not have a personal thing against Jake. People accused me of the same thing when I was criticizing Peppers play, but it was true, wasn't it? People accused me of the same thing when I was criticizing Hurney's rash contracts, but it was true, wasn't it? People accused me of being biased in favor of Trgovac when people were calling for his head, but I was right, wasn't I? I call it like I see it, and I'm correct about Delhomme too. He has been boneheadedly stupid far too often in the regular season, but I have always bowed down and given him his praise for his excellent performances in the playoffs. Heck, I wanted him starting over Peete and I loved having him at $2 million a year, now I just want him to improve (perish the thought) by continuing to be a playmaker while eliminating his very obvious and very undeniable shortcomings.

Hey, you have your opinion. I'm not taking you away from that, but in the end every year since the end of his first you've suggested we let him walk, be replaced by the likes of Garcia and Johnson, or that we draft guys to supplant him, even into the middle of his Pro Bowl play. You've exaggerated his salary numerous times. You've given him credit, but at what seems a begrudging level. Trust me, I'm certainly not the only one who's on the other side of this fence.

And unlike Peppers, I don't believe people are attempting to deny or falsify problems and/or shortcomings. Everyone who praises him, knows he has a downside.

I wouldn't call it an exaggeration to do the numbers wrong and get $10 million when it should have been just under $9 million, especially when we don't have all the details as public information and have to put it all together ourselves. I don't see the difference between just under $9 million and $10 million being that drastic, as they're both extremely high salaries, whether or not you choose to believe it was an honest mistake.
Wrong. When people like McFly say stupid things about how Delhomme has won us "far more" than he's lost for us (especially when I've repeatedly gone through the game record and proven that isn't true)., they're misrepresenting reality (and no doubt in part because McFly just wants to disagree with me because he's still bitter). Hell, coming into this season people would give me no end of shit for suggesting that Jake had ever lost us a game. You'd think he walked on water or something based on the comments that were made. And while it did get more realistic for a while, it's become more unrealistic again.

    Bottom line:
    * Jake is the Panthers quarterback.

    * Jake has been lights out-awesome in the playoffs.

    * Jake has fucked up a lot of games in the regular season, and if not for a Chris Weinke save against Detroit, we might not be in Seattle.

    * Jake's contract escalates dramatically over the next couple of seasons, so I really want him to cut out the funny shit and play like he does in the playoffs all season long (or at least often enough that the stupid throws are a rarity, since it has been noted that everyone has them sometimes).

I think those are all fair points. We really need to build a better running game for him. When we have that, he tends to make far less errant throws (second half of '04, postseason '05).

$7.6 million isn't just under $9 million, or obviously $10 million. And I googled it within 30 seconds to find a 5 year, $38 mil deal, and IIRC the bonus (which I did object to its size, and still am worried about the size of bonuses we've given out) was spread out over 6 years (which wouldn't have been possible by the time Jake would've been UFA).
And yeah, that's public info, and it's nowhere near $10 mil. To think he's not that good, that's one thing, but to continually exaggerate things like salary tends to lead me to believe certain things that might not be true, but I feel solid in, or else I wouldn't have mentioned it.

The "he's just bitter" part doesn't change that guys like Piper feel that Jake's won more than he's lost. But that's opinion. I'm not going to go one way or another. He owns some losses, and that's pretty big. But he's right. And he's lost us some games.

I don't believe he walks on water. But I've also not wanted to replace him or down him at every opportunity. You've gone as far as correcting people on who they should give a game ball to, and maybe that's how you are moreso than how you feel about Jake. But I feel like you've been unneedingly harsh to a guy who's been awfully good for us, at pretty much every turn.

If you feel that's not a valid criticism, then pay it no mind.
