    He's a great interview.

"If it's third-and-11," Henning said, "you've already screwed up the first two downs. What makes you think you're going to make it on third down?"

Trouble happens on third-and-long in the NFL. On average, teams convert 10 percent of third-down plays of 10 yards or longer into first downs.

"Probably half of our 28 sacks this year have come on third-and-long," Henning said. "When the ball's been knocked out of Jake's hands this year, at least 50 percent of the time it's been third-and-long. We've thrown 50 percent of our interceptions on that down and distance."

    Let the nerd warz begin..............

I'd say a draw up the middle is called for.

seriously, doesn't that all depend on the position on the field? If, for instance, we are on their 20 yard line, we know they're coming hard why don't we try the moving pocket sometimes? I hardly ever see us do that anymore.

That's awesome. The "don't try" argument.

He really is a great interview. But yeah, you're going to have more sacks with more frequency in more obvious situations.

You're going to have a smaller chance of converting long distance when you couldn't convert short distance. The problem is, why does he think that doing the same thing on 3rd down that he did hopelessly and unimaginatively on 1st and 2nd is going to work? It makes a whole fuckload more sense to try something else.

It sounds like his argument is, we don't deserve four downs if we screw up the first two. Let's take our medicine and punt.

If a pro golfer thought like that every time he hit one into the woods, he couldn't stay on the tour.

If you know this why don't you move the pocket, max protect Jake, run a draw, screen pass or some play that doesn't have Jake sitting in the pocket for 5 to 7 seconds with the receivers running 30 yard routes.

I've called so many 3rd down interceptions this year in 3rd and long becuase either we don't/can't protect Jake or he doesn't step up in the pocket. He gets pressured, throws off his back foot and suddenly the ball is going to other way.
