pc or operator error

    It's probably not a problem with system restore. It's more likely a problem with one of the updates.

    i cant get the cd to boot either ..

    a USB keyboard might not work if the ports are part of a PCI setup. I think that's what Brain was trying to ask about.

    It may be that your PC is set to check the hard drive before the CD drive when booting up. You'll have to get into the BIOS to change that. What brand of computer is it? HP is usually F10, Dell is usually F2...

    Given that he'd tried every option on the Windows startup menu, I didn't feel the need to ask if his keyboard worked.

    I was confused when he said he couldn't get them to work in that he meant it wouldn't select them. my bad.
