Check out this lesser known tie-breaker rule.

It's been said that if Dallas and Washington both win to get to 10-6, and we lose to drop to 10-6, that the Panthers would be the odd man out, due to the fact that both DAL and WASH have the head-to-head tiebreakers over us. No matter what happened to Tampa, at 10-6 we lose the division, and this would leave us in a three way tie for the wildcard.

    NFL Tiebreakers

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM

    Three or More Clubs

    1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.

Seems to me that in a three way tie for the wildcard, we would only face a head to head against EITHER Dallas or Washington (dont know/care who has their tiebreaker). By that logic, we have already wrapped up the 6 seed at worst.

Am I not understanding the rules correctly or overlooking a different scenario?

What head to head tiebreaker does Washington have over us?

It was a late edit into the post, doesn't really matter either way.

I'm just saying that others have said if DAL and WASH win and we lose, we're out, and I don't think that's the case. I think we're guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.

washington will have a better win/loss record (5-1) within their division should they win their game at philly.

carolina will stand at 3-3 should they lose to atlanta

It's Division record, then Conference record before you even get to the tiebreakers. And no, the Pantheres aren't in yet.

I'm not seeing where division record comes into play in a three way tie for the wildcards :/ You would apply division tie breakers to DAL and WASH before you even considered CAR, and since there are 3 teams for 2 spots, that would leave us in by default.

Actually I think you are all wrong, Our conference record would only be 7-5 with a loss to Atlanta and the Skins' would be 10-2, the Cowboys 8-4 if they both win Sunday. And thus we would be out. We better beat Atlanta cause I don't trust the Rams or Eagles.

Hmm, I don't think so judging by those rules. Even if NY loses, leaving that division in a 3 way tie at 10-6, they would settle the division and leave 3 teams for 2 spots in the wildcards.
