I have always liked groups that have been more or less classified as Prog Rock such as older Rush, Yes, Pink Floyd and too some extent Queen. Recently though I have been on a bit of a run with some of the newer or lessor known Prog Rock bands and was just curious if anyone knew of these groups and could add to my wish list.

    What I have:

Porcupine Tree: In Absentia, Deadwing & Stars Die
    Blackfield: Blackfield
King Crimson: The Power to Believe
Dream Theater: Octavarium and Metropolis Part 2
Spocks Beard: Feel Eurphoria limited edition.

    What I am considering
Flower Kings has been suggested and some that I think I would like are:
    James LaBrie: Elements of Pursuasion
    Riverside: Out of Myslef
    Neal Morse: ? and One
    Spoks Beard: Octane
Porcupine Tree: Sky Moves Sideways & Up the Downstair
King Crimson: Larks Tongues in Aspic
Dream Theater: Awake & Train of Thought.

    Anyone care to chime in?

You can't go wrong with any early King Crimson, Brand X, Van der Graff Generator, Camel, Caravan, ELP, Gong, National Health, Gentle Giant, etc.

while i wouldn't call them prog rock, queens of the stone age have a bit of that feel to them.

you might try some procol harum if you like the old school sound.

Some of it annoys me, but The yes Album is like a soundtrack to my life.

I also saw Yes in either '87 or '88 - and they were good.

Unfortunately this site leads off with a 3 star review of a clear 5 star record. Only an amateur doesn't recognize the brilliance of the final cut. Ah well, nice try.

You could also try out some Meshuggah.

They're more classified as Heavy Metal, but a lot of their musical style is progressive to me. Lots of time changes, difficult riffs, etc. It's near impossible to keep up with the barrage of time changes and mood changes in the songs.

Wonderfully written if you can get past the yelling. That's usually what deters most from metal.

I consider Primus to be prog-ish. Definitely towards the top of my lists.

Well, they also creamed Yes Fragile from a review standpoint and that is considered by many a Prog Rock Standard. I give give a rats turd about reviews like that, they are opinions no better than my own. If you really get into the sight it offers some excellent free music to sample from groups that I had previously never heard of and some of which I intend on buying in part from what I was able to sample.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, my list is growing.
