Wonder if they have mods who merge threads there? They all want their own Sims Sucks thread.

find out what you can about this:

Bucs DE Rice breaks team rule, sent home

    NFL.com wire reports

SAN FRANCISCO (Oct. 30, 2005) -- Tampa Bay defensive end Simeon Rice was deactivated and sent home before the Buccaneers' 15-10 loss at San Francisco for an undisclosed violation of club policy.

Rice, a 10-year veteran who has been selected for three Pro Bowls, led the Buccaneers with five sacks in their first six games. Tampa Bay general manager Bruce Allen refused to comment on reports Rice missed a team meeting, but said Rice wasn't suspended.

"He's headed home. We don't get into the details," said Allen, who met with Rice the night before to issue the punishment. "Obviously, it has to do with club discipline. ... It's a (one-game) deal. We're just going to fight through this game and see where it goes from there."

The Buccaneers lost despite holding the 49ers to 208 yards of offense. Third-year pro Dewayne White, who had six sacks last season, made four tackles while starting in Rice's place, but Tampa Bay couldn't sack Ken Dorsey or Cody Pickett.

"It was a difficult decision," coach Jon Gruden said. "It's a team matter, and I don't get into those things personally. We expect him to be back with us and ready to go next week. I don't think that it had any impact on the outcome. You have to score points to win football games.

"Hopefully Simeon comes back ready to roll, and he learns from this. We have rules that we are going to set and stand by."

Rice is in his fifth season with the Buccaneers after five years with Arizona. He has 110 career sacks, putting him in 14th place on the NFL's career list.

But he also has a history of mercurial behavior. He was kicked off the NFC's Pro Bowl team in 2004 after missing meetings and practices in Hawaii leading up to the game, and he has angered his former fans by disparaging Phoenix -- and his alma mater, Illinois -- in interviews after he left town.

Rice also is an aspiring screenwriter and model who published his autobiography last fall.

"It wasn't a distraction. We're all professionals around here," defensive tackle Anthony McFarland said. "We had a job to do, and that's what we tried to get done."
