As I stated those years were affected due to injuries(that happens unfortunately) Smitty or having a Walls.

2001 he had injury issues. 2002 and 2003 he was either the number 2 or 3 option. You can't go entirely by the stats if the guy isn't used or is injured.
As for drops I only remember them during the injury year of 2001 and early in his career. If the drops were a consistant problem, then he would have had them last year as well.

I thought Gardner was pretty underwhelming in his one shot too.

#1) You can't possibly be serious in suggesting that he didn't have a problem with drops recently. Of all the complaints about Moose, that was by far the most frequent.

#2) We're comparing Moose to our current #2s, that's the whole point. Moose wouldn't have put up huge numbers with Smith healthy, and neither will our other guys, especially if we aren't trailing by big margins. Now I do think Colbert can and should play better, but people who pretend that Moose should have been kept are just being unrealistic.

The one where Jake threw the ball about 3 yards outta bounds? Gardner still got two hands on it and kept both feet inbounds only to lose the ball when he hit the ground and have the defensive player fall on top of him?

But Moose would have made that catch! :woohoo:

I was bitching the whole game about why we kept going to him. I just had a feeling he wasn't going to catch shit.

I've never been a big fan though.

Just saying I don't remember recent ones, if that was such a flaw in his game then he would have still had it last year. I mean hell should have even gone up last year with the number of chances he had, and with Jake throwing to him, because Jake isn't known for his accuracy.

Moose was the number one option last year as Smitty is this year. I think I would take last years Moose over this years Smitty thus far. Hey I am all for having Moose around for #2 he doesn't have to be #1 for me.

You have got to have at least 2 WR's that can get it done or one helluva WR/RB combo, but we know we don't have that just from injuries alone the past several years.

My memory's fine. My memory never said the words "special", though I'd argue at times in the playoffs he was special as a #2.

But yeah, my memory of him running 36/585/2 TDs over the last 8 games, that's intact, and that you said he "wasn't that good". I said "I think he certainly was", so "good" certainly seems to be allright for a guy who'd have caught ~75/1100/4 TDs as a #2 if he'd had the O we had in late 03.

Granted, I'm not advocating that we should've kept Moose at all costs, so separate me from that as well. And I defended him more than anyone.

Depends on what you call effective, but I think you're stretching to fit your point, just as UNCFever is freaking out a bit about Colbert.

Side point - Moose had his drops. He also had less than the guy he started across from, both in 03 and 04. Don't have the numbers on 02 or I'd comment on those, but while he occasionally had untimely drops, he had better hands than Colbert seems to have over the 17 games he's played in at this point.

Moose has nothing to do with Colbert, and Colbert simply needs to step up some. He's as much as we need, but he's gotta get there. And right now, he's not. But I don't know that Gardner would do much better, either.

As I said, aside from the Washington game he wasn't that good. Take that game out of those last eight games and you're left with 27/396/2 over 7 games. Overall you're still left with pretty unimpressive totals for the season.
