a couple of the ones I'm looking at have lower resolution than that though. My laptop is 1400 x 1040. What's a good resolution versus price?

1680x1050 widescreen gaming for the win! (as long as you can afford a buff vid card to push it, it works great)

Why are you looking at other ones? What's the budget or other criteria?

    20"+ LCD's are generally 1600x1280
17-19" are generally 1280x1024 or something
15" are generally 1024x768 or so

I use autocad, so I like something with a pretty high resolution so that I can see more of the drawing clearly. Screen size is less an issue. I prefer a 19", but I can live with a 17". And I'd like to spend less than $400. Possible? OLL.

    Dell 2001FP $485
    Dell 1905FP $385

And that's just a regular deal. If you keep an eye on techbargains and slickdeals, you'll find Dell deals that will drop those by a hundred or more...

I know I've seen that 2001FP for under $400, which is INSANE.

I got my 20" for 385 delivered. Just keep looking at those sites on a regular basis. They usually have the better deals on Friday.

Always happy to help a clown in need.
And keep fighting the good fight against the "conservative" fucktards in the time-sink forums :).
