Jenkins looked like a beast out there Sunday. He was in the backfield at the point of exchange a couple of times. He draws doubleteams freeing up Rucker and probably makes Morgan a better player. Buckner is toast, he does not have the strength, speed or talent that Jenkins does. Could it be possible that Trogo needs to assess the situation and react and improvise? Could this be the thing that forces him to become more aggressive? The spin is he does not want to become aggresive because he is unsure of the secondary. Well their getting beat on nearly every play anyway. Why not open it up and let the guys ATTACK! We can't be any worse than we already are.

Positive: Ellison gets promoted to the active roster, learns more than being on the practice squad and eventually as time goes on he begins to show the promise that made us draft him in the third round.

Negative: Teams begin to run all over us.

It's a positive for the young guys who, like last year, want to make a name for themselves. For one, Moorehead has a chance to prove on the field that he's not the lazy fuckup he was in 03 or preseason 04, that shows back up when he can't beat Carstens for a spot on active roster.

Ellison gets NFL time. Which helps him.

Us? Does it help us? Fuck no. All Pro on the field >>>>> playing youngsters, especially when you're starting to worry about that All Pro's durability.

For what it's worth, though, Jenkins is the key ingredient, and yet with a shit scrub in there for him (and no depth at all, thanks to poor active roster management), we still held a well above average rusher (with a pretty decent interior line) to 3 a carry. So this idea that we can't stop the run? That's outright wrong, not just doubtful. We can and have stopped the run. We have no reasons or excuses to be unable to stop the run.

One positive is we don't have a guy in there stinking it up for the 2 losses/games it takes him to realize he is hurting the team by being on the field. As in what happened last year.

Disagree with Buckner being toast. He was one of our best defenders last year, and in the Saints game he collapsed the pocket a few times and made some nice stops. Buckner is willing and able, and still one of the better guys on this paper champ defense we have.

A team ran all over us when Jenkins was in the game on the first drive. Its not just one player.

Agreed, and Buckner was excellent in this respect. Instead the area where losing Jenkins absolutely kills us is the pass rush. Buckner gets absolutely no push up the middle, nor does Moorehead or Carstens. Without that we just don't get after the QB.

And I'd like to note yet again that yesterday we did blitz quite often, but without Fields our LBs just suck to unbelievable levels at doing it. That's where we can use Thomas Davis, in my opinion.
