Robertson has made this team based on merit. It could be politics that keeps him out, though.

    I like McCree as well....he's a hitter.

    Some obsevatiuons about preseason:

-I've been impressed with both Seward and McCree this preseason. Both men fly to the ball and are hitters. Seward gets the nod and Tufts gets the door. McCree has played his ass off, earning his spot and not by default from Branch being injured.

-Bashir is a disappoitnment in all honesty. If Branch wasn't hurt, his ass would be cut. Tonight was not the first time he was late to react to a play. That crap he said about being disappointed not working with the first team is a freaking joke, he's not second string material. The only reason he started in Indy is because their defense sucked for several years and upgrading it meant getting rid of him.

-Rasmussen is too valuable to get rid of.

-Boone and Robertson both are decent players and in years past probably would have stuck, but I don't see us keeping either with the play of Carter and Smart tonight. Not that either Drew or Rod made spectacular plays, but made the most of the opportunites they got.

-Gaines will stick as the third TE.

-Shelton is unimpressive and may turn out to be a disappointmeny for the team. He looks slow, stiff, indecisive and just trys to bowl people over, which you can do in conference USA, but not in the NFL.

-I think Rouen gets the punting job because he seems to have better control over placement even though Baker has the stronger leg.

-Wesley is and never will be starting corner material. The staff should have made the switch to safety this camp or last. He loves to hit and is good at run support, but being over 210 for a CB means the agility level is hampered by his weight and frame.

-I like LeFors a lot. When he had time this preseason, he made the most of it. Both the Giants and Steelers applied a ton of pressure and our third string O-line couldn't hold for Stefan. The other two games he looked really good in.

-The only thing I'm going to say about the starters is Buck is looking REALLY old out there. I think it's time to pass the torch on to Moorehead. I know they are splitting snaps this year, Buck getting about 2/3s of them, but I think it should be reversed and give Kindal the 2/3s to gain more experience and part ways with Brenston next year.

Shelton came back into the game and didn't look as bad. He still ran high, but he got in there in the pile and rooted. Close enough for now, too bad it was against shit competition. So it's hard to say he goes to IR when he comes back in and plays.

Ross practiced in pads the day he went on IR.

I am not sure. I mean Bakers leg strength is far and away better than Rouen AND he seems to be able to handle the kickoff duties with good results. I think Rouen is the one off to the social security office...

Love reading all the positive stuff about McRee. I'm definitely a fan. The guy makes plays.

Think I agree about the rest too. Gonna hate watching Robertson win significant PT on another team.

Is there any way any of these guys can be put on the PUP and then brought back in a couple months once we've lst a player or two to the IR?? I think it'd be smarter to stash someone on the PUP than it would be in IR... I'm not even sure its possible though.

I know that... but it also doesn't count against the roster...

Let me give you and example

    Lets say we keep
    Davis
    Foster
    Goings
    Smart
    Robertson
and we send Shelton to the PUP.

Well between now and when Shelton is eligible to come off the PUP someone gets a season ending knee injury. Or whatever. Well then we say at the end of that term "WOW Shelton is healed" and we don't have to go elsewhere to get another player. And if none of those guys are hurt we just IR Shelton and leave it at that till next year. It'd sorta be used as an insurance policy. I'm not sure this can actually be done, but I've never looked into it because we've never had depth like this.
