No doubt. He's a guy with EVERTHING to prove, and we have nothing to lose.

    Great fucking job, Hurney.

I hope this turns out as good as the Jay Williams for Al Wallace and a 4th.....

If he lives up to his potential, then we need to make a fair contract with him next year; not try to cheap him on a fucked up contract.

This seems like a good deal , this year, for both parties.

I think we have someone named Rogers who has been doing all the contract negotiating this year according to Mezner. I was going to post the link but I can't open it myself. It's in the July 31 edition of the Journalnow rag.

Yea this is pretty sweet. I wonder if we can use the money we saved due to this to sign anyone. If so who would we want to sign at ths point. All the rookies are on board. Maybe we are going to use it to give somone a long term deal like Spoon.

I don't have any numbers in front of me, but I didn't think we had the money to keep Gardner at his $2 mil salary. Maybe that's what they told him - reduce or be gone. Heck, I'm just surprised that he did it. It's pretty strange to see a player give up base salary without more money coming later, but maybe we converted some of his remaining base to bonus. I'm glad to hear it, just puzzled as to Gardner's motivation.

I think Gardner was just glad to get the hell outta dodge and be somewhere where he could be appreciated. And I'm thinking that he's waiting for the end of the season to get his payday, whether it's from us or another team.
