    Safety Minter wants a new look

    Call it a sign of things to come or perhaps a message to the coaching staff. Veteran safety Mike Minter made it pretty clear he wants to play free safety, after spending almost his entire career on the strong side.That possibility has been kicked around since the Panthers drafted Thomas Davis in the first round in April. Davis played safety at Georgia but has the size to move to linebacker. He worked both positions in minicamp and June workouts. The Panthers have been vague about where they will use Davis, but one scenario is putting him at strong safety and moving Minter to free safety.

    Minter made it very clear that's what he wants.

    "I really had fun (in minicamp) playing free safety," Minter said. "After eight years of playing strong safety, to be on that open side and see a different look ... there are a lot of opportunities on that other side. Hopefully, the young fellow will pick it up. I'd like to stay over there." -- PAT YASINSKAS

    I know its JUST a Video Game, but that's the lineup (reportedly) in Madden 06, Short at SLB, Davis as SS, Minter at FS. Really opens us up to the seam pass.

    I thought that was very interesting. I wonder why he likes free? Maybe less hitting, although he's not shy about that. Maybe just something different.
