I thought Morgan would be easier to resign

I thought they just resigned Minter to another contract this year to lower his cap number.

*4 year extension as of 6/10*

Somewhat possible, though I still feel they felt him as a good overall defender that could lock onto the TE, regardless of the position. I, for one, would certainly feel better that we drafted a guy for a specific purpose or role rather than insurance.

the guy is one concussion from retirement. I wouldn't pay him until he gets through a season missing less than 4 games from injuries.

Just curious but who would replace Morgan in the middle among who we have currently? When healthy (see Superbowl XXVIII) he is a beast. He would be cheaper to sign now if he can stay healthy this year. What about some sort of clause in his new contract based upon number of snaps he participates in?

The last sentence - that's a great way to make sure he doesn't stay.

Who would replace him now? Hard to say. Is Draft big enough? He's the most likely, having the experience at MLB. The downside to the "big enough" argument, and pretty much all "big enough" semanticisms that we've had at length around here, is that neither Morgan nor Witherspoon play big anyway. So it's not like Morgan's this great gap filler and that Draft wouldn't be able to fill his shoes. As of right now, Morgan might be one of the best in the league at getting to the ball 2nd; it would matter more what else any "new guy" could bring to the table in filling his gap, making plays behind the LOS, etc., as to how well we'd replace him. That player might not be on this roster, but a two down MLB isn't exactly the hardest thing to find.

As good as Morgan is I wouldn't give him more than 3 mil a year solely because he hasn't proven he can stay healthy. Then again "if" we could drop Brentson Buckner and sign both WW and Morgan I'd do it in a minute. We can fill BBs shoes alot easier (and cheaper) than either of the LBs, I think
