when you first load a computer it asks you for an administrator password. You MIGHT have skipped this step and left it blank, it happens. Boot the computer like normal to the normal login screen. Where you would click your ICON to login. Instead of clicking your ICON/Name press that Ctrl+ALT+DEL twice like I said earlier. It will then take you to a login box. It should have your login name at that place. Type in 'Administrator' and press ENTER.

I've seen this happen with a friends computer after her children got it infected with a LOT of spyware. The time between the user selection screen and finally loading to the desktop took about 15-20 minutes.

Have you tried Brains advice on logging in? What happens when you simply click on a user picture to login? For that matter, what is displayed on the login screen (Guest, ASP.Net?)?

Running all of your anti virus and e.g. ad-aware, etc. in safe mode can't hurt. :twocents:

I booted it in safe mode and edit the registry to remove all of the startups for the spyware and then booted it normally to remove the applications.

Of course you could run Adaware in safe mode as well.

Do you know how to boot up in Safe Mode?

I don't think she can load adaware in safe mode can she? Which means she needs tot be able to access it in regular mode to load it. Ugh... That's why I'd log on as the Admin. account. It'd at least give her time to load the software.

The real problem hasn't been determined yet, so we don't need to cloud the issue. Do that administrator thing Brain suggested and then we can figure it out.
