Former two-sport star not taken in supplemental draft

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Wide receiver Roscoe Crosby has agreed to a multiyear deal with the Indianapolis Colts, after not being taken in Thursday's supplemental draft.

Kevin Parker, his advisor, said Friday that Crosby was expected to report to the Colts' training camp on July 27 at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.

Parker said several teams called about signing Crosby after the draft, "but Indianapolis proved to be the best situation for Roscoe."

Crosby excelled in football and baseball at Union High School. He was a likely top 10 pick in the 2001 Major League Baseball draft, but was taken by the Kansas City Royals in the second round when Crosby told baseball teams he would continue to pursue big-time football as a receiver at Clemson.

Crosby signed a $1.75 million contract with the Royals that summer. He set freshman receiving records for Clemson with 27 catches and 465 yards in the 2001 season.

How is that the " best situation" for him? I know that the Colts have Manning and they throw the ball a lot but dont they already have at least 3 starter types vying for balls; if not more? Would it not have made any sense to come to Carolina? Close to home, plenty of opportunity for playing time...

Another supp draft player to sign... According to a report from Next Level Scouting former Mississippi RB Vashon Pearson, who was not selected in Thursday's supplemental draft, will sign with Indianapolis pending a physical he will take this morning, according to his agent John Holmes. The Colts had peviosuly signed former Clemson WR Roscoe Crosby, another undrafted rookie free agent who had been available in the supplemenatl draft.

I really don't see this as any great loss for us. We have so many WRs now that if he was to have signed with us, he probably would've been released either during or after training camp.

Smart move. He can cash an NFL check and basically never have to worry about getting in the game.
