nah I think you misunderstand I wasn't trying to argue this with you, more answer your questions as I saw them.

Ah I see what you're getting at now, but really how else would you do it. I guess I can see why you'd expect more. So I won't put up an rebuttal here.

I guess I personally just assumed there were more troops there. Because the only ones we saw were at the boats. I'm sure that in in normal set up there would be more troops in other areas. So I just assumed they'd be there in this case as well.

I can also see your argument in this, but I viewed the initial death rays as a form of early intimidation. After there is mass fear and panic it would be easier to take the humans.

I just think this was to show the depth of the craze the people were experiencing. But I will admit I hadn't thought of the raptors in the kitchen parallel.

Didnt care for this one much. I have seen the original several times and am aware of how this first debuted as a radio serial that a lot of people mistook for true events decades ago.

Speaking of plotholes *SPOILER* - wtf was up with the aliens getting sick = their shields go down? Did i just blink and miss something. That doesnt make a bit of sense.

I agree with Catnip's take of lazy story telling. Robbins' character was superfluous. And the whole story progressed very raggedly. I felt like I was watching the actors run from one set to the next, do this in this set, then move again. Did not care for that at all.

Fanning was over-used for her incredible ability to look terrified. This is the movie that is supposed to launch her as a child star, but Spielberg may have overused her one trick like a College baseball coach overpitching his staff ace. SS leaned way too hard on her to carry scenes since Cruise was just along for the ride.

Oh - almost forgot - the sub story "the good father" - if getting Fanning to her Mom in Boston was supposed to validate Cruise's character as a good father, then what does it say that his son made it there alone?

I took P Jr to see it. He loved it. The exploding people and profanity was a bit much for a 5 year old though. He was on the edge of his seat the entire time.

Ben and I saw it today. I enjoyed it. Nothing to argue about as far as I can see.
