The Panthers are going back to WBT

Panthers | New Radio Station Named - from www.KFFL.com
    Thu, 12 May 2005 08:10:19 -0700

Updating a previous story, the Charlotte Business Journal reports WBT-AM will again serve as the flagship radio station of the Carolina Panthers. The team and the station agreed to a five-year deal. The station will handle, at no cost, game coverage, pre- and post-game shows and weeknight coaches' shows. The Panthers will continue handling all sales and production for radio coverage and retain all advertising revenue. This deal ends a five-year run with Clear Channel Communications' WRFX-FM.

    Panthers team with WBT

The Carolina Panthers and News Talk 1110, WBT announced Thursday that they have entered into a multi-year agreement for WBT to serve as the flagship station for the team's games and related programming.

As the new flagship of the Carolina Panthers Radio Network, the station will carry live all game day broadcasts as well as Panther Talk, a weekly one-hour call-in show airing Monday from 8:05 to 9:00 pm. In addition, WBT will also carry twice daily Panther updates during morning and afternoon drive sportscasts Monday through Friday. All Panthers related programming will be simulcast on both News Talk 1110am and 99.3fm, WBT.

"We have a great respect for the heritage, tradition and reputation of WBT radio," says Panther President Mark Richardson. "As we work to establish our own tradition, we are pleased to be associated with a locally-owned institution with a legacy of community involvement. We try to align with companies that share our business philosophy and look forward to working again with WBT."

The partnership will provide WBT with in-stadium and on-site marketing elements on game days as well as print and hospitality opportunities throughout the season and the year. The station will also have the promotional rights as the "Radio Home of the Carolina Panthers."

The Panthers will receive marketing and promotional support from WBT radio throughout the season as well as assistance in building an on-site radio studio at Bank of America Stadium. The on-site studio is unique in the NFL and continues a pattern that saw the Panthers among the first teams in the League to take all radio and television broadcasting production and sales in-house.

In addition to handling all radio sales and broadcasting production, the team also manages and maintains the 50-plus Carolina Panthers Radio Network heard throughout the two-state region.

Plus WBT has the option to listen online, but its possible the Panthers won't allow that.

Now that the Panthers are back on WBT, I wonder if they'll also consider a general sports talk show?

    Brain,

The NFL won't allow it. You have to pay to listen through NFL.com. Or for the time being you can listen on Sirius as long as they stay in business...
