System restore is one of the first things I turn off. And firefox is one of the first things I install. No problems ;)

Who's that? It happened last night and I tried everything to get rid of it. Ad-aware, CWShredder, Spybot. Didn't try hijack this because I don't know what to do with all the info it gives you. Only thing that worked was the system restore. You saying that won't keep it away or that I should just use Mozilla?

I'm saying get your PC cleaned up and then turn off System Restore. A lot of times it restores stuff you don't want - like viruses and spyware. Our problems with repeat offenders went down significantly when we did.

Why turn system restore off? Seems like just not using it would be sufficient. Restore doesn't restore unless you implement it, does it?

That's what I was thinking but I could see it restoring crap you don't want later on.

Kept you from getting messages from anyone on your Windows network. It did not, for example, turn off system restore.
