what we really need is a grade of offseasons (draft, FA's, players lost).

but props to meat and mags for the well done analysis on the drafts

I don't know that they place a premium on DB over WR per say. I think they are usually looking special teams when they pick them, and the better prospects for that have been DBs/LBs, i.e. Cooper(DB). The exception may be Hankton(WR), Smart(RB).

I really payed attention to the outside guys on punts/kickoffs last year and realized what a tough assignment that is. Gunner is truly a specialty. It kept Hankton employed cause we all know he can't catch AIDS with a 10 year old community needle.

I believe that statistic is called a win loss record.

though i do like your bottom line approach i don't agree not completely ... i don't think

existing players developing, injuries, schedule, coaching changes/decisions, players quitting, etc. (for lack of wanting to think) come into play. we didn't go from 1-15 to 7-9 to 11-5 (?) to 7-9 soley due to our offseason moves ... i don't think, though offseason personnel decisions would play a part in the win-loss tally.

well i'll agree that i don't know that i won an argument ... as i finished typing that remark it occurred to me that there was much more to the argument than simply that and mags surely was proved right on a lot of points and i wrong on a couple. ;) i lost on at least one in particular of major significance that i won't freely volunteer to keep from giving the dark side another valid reason to call me a dumbass henceforth.

the backfield of mag's dreams may be approaching reality with lucas, gamble, manning and now davis. only lacking a FS from having a possible 5 guys of all-pro(world) caliber back there. and minter doesn't suck. most of those guys were not drafted/signed with ST in mind anymore than our WRs. but if Carter and Smitty hold up and Colbert takes a big step forward, and one of all the WR walk-ons surprises we may have a helluva group of WRs in the making. add in Freddie, a much improved OL and Shelton and who knows, our offense mite truly be terrific.

i love your wordsmithing. Hankton is the man.

    Another?

Sure, after two #1 picks in a row, thankfully, they've done something about the defensive backfield. Funny, all that rush, and we finally realized that it doesn't matter if the back 4 isn't crap.

But I was pushing for a WR over that time, too. Walter Young and Keary Colbert are the big expenditures, other than re-signing Smith, and that's not enough.

you do know that i'm just kidding around? come to think about it, we never had that particular argument. you have always wanted the passing game and weapons moreso than even i.
