he won't ever be a true "free" safety like Grant, no. But I think we were going to leave that behind and have a guy play middle zone anyway. I don't see him playing FS here necessarily, I'd rather see him play SS, play some zone, play some man-TE, and make plays nearer to the line.

With this Davis pick and us signing Jones, makes me think that we may be shaking up our playbook from our normal "run every down" philosophy.

I was kinda salivating over Johnson but Davis is a playmaker too. If he can hold up against the run he might make an awesome SLB. He should be able to cover any tight end in the league.

Are you looking to play Minter at FS? He did early in his career and wasn't terribly succesful. But he's alot more experienced now. It wasn't a physical thing, I don't think.

Minter IMO has never been real aware in the passing game, he is able to mask his deficientcies and enhance his strength at SS. He could move to FS, but I would suspect he would be a cap casualty before that. Davis will take a little time to develop, I think he's more ready as a LB than a SS.

Minter was another LB conversion, wasn't he? In college, that is.

Nah Minter was always a SS, although he was up around the LOS alot at Nebraska.
