Not so fast. Sure, he's kind of old. The arm's not what it used to be. He's not very mobile (but then, when was he?). He hasn't played in a few years. All that just makes him...well, Rodney Pete.
But at least he USED to be a great player, a hall of famer, an icon of the game. And as Suzie Culver would be quick to point out, it would be dangerous to underestimate the man's passionate desire.

I still say David Baas if not Heath Miller. If Miller would be a "bust" in this offense then Baas would put our line over the top for the next few years, IMO. I realize it would be a stretch taking him this early, but what the hell? He has the heart, the work ethic, the mean streak, all the intangibles that Barron doesn't. Let Wahle play G during Baas' rookie season if he needs to sit a year, see what happens to Mitchell in year 2, and move Wahle to T if necessary. I would rather spend money and hire a guy I really liked rather than miss him based on other's projections. A coach and GM know their team best, one would hope.

i'm going to keep adding to my list...

    Chris Rix, QB, Florida State

I don't care if he's the 7th round pick -- don't want him yucking up the panthers. he needs a serious QB coach, and that's just to fix his feet, vision and arm. there's the whole other issue of decision-making and leadership.

let someone else (*raiders*) gamble on the project.

Any Running Back in the 1st round. Nothing against the backs, but it would be a clear signal that Stephen Davis is done and I'm hoping that behind the scenes the organization is confidant that Stephen Davis AND Deshaun Foster will return to pre-injury forms. Probably wishful thinking though, and unlikely any of the backs we would take with the 14th pick will be gone by our selection.

No, I mean I would like either but if it is true that we absolutely WON'T draft Miller because of our OC, then I vote for Baas even though it is a bit early projection-wise. For this team, I just feel like he has the best value. I really like the guy's intangibles...and his tangibles aren't too bad either. :)

I hope the Panthers dont draft Baas at #14... I dont dislike the guy or anything but that is too much of a reach for the #14 pick IMO.
