LJ, anyone else listened to it? (see my avatar)

Finally picked it upa couple of days ago and have been trying to absorb it. It got a lot of positive press but I'm not sold yet. I think it'll be a grower...

Standout track, contrary to most of what I've read, has to be "One of these days". That one might even get some radio play. It's this album's "There Goes The Fear", though it's quite different sonicly.

Brit pop/rock. Immensely popular over there, very popular with the college kids & music nerds here. they became popular about the same time as Coldplay, so some seem to get them confused, but they sound nothing alike.

They started as a techno/dance outfit called sub sub, cut their obligatory single dance hit (Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use)), and seemed headed for obscurity like all the others. then they reformed in about '99 as a rock band and cut their first album. Their second one was even more pupular. I'm pretty sure LJ likes them because he's posted some of their tunes on the this moment thread. They're pretty much icons in the UK

Doves albums and some of my favorite tracks on them:

    Lost Souls
    - Catch the Sun*
    - Sea Song
    - Here it Comes

    The Last Broadcast
    - There Goes the Fear (whips ass)
    - Pounding*
    - New York
    - Caught by the River

    Some Cities
    - One of These Days (whips ass)
    - Snowden
    - Black and White Town

    *Obligatory radio friendly tracks

Kinda hard to pick tracks on the new one. Don't know it well enough yet.

Thank you for the info, Harry. I'm liking some of the stuff just on first listen. I'll have to get deeper into it.

The Last Broadcast whips ass. I love that album. I haven't picked up some cities because I am still absorbing last broadcast. lost souls was a little too melancholy, but last broadcast really shows the bands improvement.

They, IMO, are a cross between coldplay and the pablo-honey-the bends era radiohead, with more deeper lyrics and a verbose sound for a 3 piece.

loving sulfur man and caught by the river, what a way to end an album.

oh, btw, i posted a thread about this earlier this week.

Yeah, it'd help if I actually read the thread listing, wouldnt it?

I already am starting to like the new album on listen #3. It still isnt Last Broadcast worthy, but its getting better.

You have to hear One of These Days lj, such a great song.

m62 - did you read the story behind that? they just recorded a new vocal off an obsure old 45 record. some people absolutely love it. it's just ok to me. sulphur man is good though.
