I look for an RB to be drafted. Wasn't Robertson a decent return man after Broussard failed? But we did sign Smart for 4 years, I can't figure that one out.

Anyone remember Stephen Davis or DeShaun Foster? Yes, there should be a little concern about returning from injury. But add those two to the mix, even if they're kinda gimpy, with Nick Goings and I wouldn't really call it crap depth. I really think it would be worthless to draft a RB anyhow.

Davis and Foster are the starters, Depth is what's behind them. Davis is headed for the PUP, and Foster is coming off injury also.

Are you comfortable potentially entering the season with Goings, Harris, Robertson your top 3?

I'm comfortable with Goings, certainly. I don't see us keeping more than 4 tailbacks, so Foster and Davis in front of Goings and player X is good enough for me.

If Robertson is player x, I think that's very good depth because he's seen a lot of action w/ the Niners, a hard runner with good acceleration, and showed flashes as a KR. Which also makes me wonder WTF we re-signed Smart.:banginghe

But to answer your question, I do feel good about the RB situation.

Hell I would almost draft Clarett in the 6th or 7th

We're signing them to short term contracts rather than tendering them. It makes their cap hit something like $200K less. If you notice thaey've don't that with most of their RFA. If they stay the cap hit will be less than if they are tendered plus they have them under a multiyear deal. If they go the cap hit will actually be close to that of if they were tendered. Its a DAMN smart move financially.

By signing Robertson to a 2 year deal rather than tendering him the cap hit goes from 600K+ to around 455K or the league min as cap hits go. if a player is cut the cap hit is only around 200K different from the 1 year tender and the two year. It also allows more space this year, and if the player makes it through camp and is successful you have him for at LEAST 2 years under contract. Same thing Ross signed for etc.

    1. Foster
    2. Davis
    3. Goings
    4. Smart

That is our running back depth chart. Unless we move Goings back to fullback and keep Robertson. Goings makes me feel better because he guarantees a certain level of performance. If Foster can stay healthy he will be the man for a long time but that is a big "IF".
