but he's 31. i'm really not sure what we should do re: moose. i love the guy, but with our current cap state, i don't want us to just sign moose and have another offseason picking up scabs.

They didn't say 4 mill would be his average salary, people. Cap hit, for next season. It would be expected that he'd have the minimum salary this year.

The real question has less to do with this season than it does with the team's structure in 2007. As far as this season is concerned, we'd save a bunch of cap space by resigning Moose, and have space going into FA.

problem is in 2007, and we don't know what the cap is going to be like then. If it makes that 15 million dollar jump, we could keep the team together, if not, then it looks less likely.

he's going to want a 5 or 6 year deal and it's likely that he won't be playing for all of that time so that was my point about the "dead money" for future cap hit(s). I wasn't just voicing concern over the 2005 season. As I remember our D-line cap hit alone should get more and more massive each year.

Harrison signed twice that, and he's Moose's age. You don't say a WR's 31, so he should get a percentage of his market value, rather than his market. RBs, maybe.

All told, I'd rather have us picking up scabs for a good reason, than it just being the "plan". Us picking up (and at) scabs is part of why we've got cap problems now.

    UPDATE

According to a recent adjustment to this ranking -
    http://www.askthecommish.com/salarycap/numbers.asp
we are currently 29th at 6.4 mil OVER the cap. However, without Mooses '05 figure . . . or Brzezinski, Hawkins, Sauerbrun, Peete, Weinke, Proehl, and a few key restructures we might be near the top 10 in cap space and ironically we'd be in a position to go after one of the top free agents like Moose.:D :shakehead

    Now, that's funny!

 Hmm. Do you think that we'd have a chance to sign Moose? He'd probably want a ton of money. I'm not really sure he'd want to play for a team like the Panthers. :D

    *joking mode off now.*

what'll be really fun is that after clearing cap space, we'll burn it all on RFA tenders and re-signing guys like Pittman and Tuten.

That's a crock (what they and the Observer say)

They both have us at $91.0m, but both are counting Muhammad's $12.5 and Meadows $3.0m subract just those two and we're magically $10.0m under before we even think about cuts or restructures.

The observer article last week listed Meadows as one of our top 51 with a $3.0M hit, they then went on to say later in the article that we get that credited.

They also count Moose at $12.5m

    for a ototal on 91.5m
