Do not blame this lockout on greed. Blame it on the Carolina's, Buffalo's, and Florida's of the league. The "fans" of these teams do not know the sport and will only support a winning team. Because these fans will not fill arenas these teams do not make a profit. So instead of giving these teams the ax, the NHL spends all its time pandering to the losers of the league. If a city cannot support a team, they need to lose their team. Why should teams like the Rangers, Red Wings, and Avalanche and their fans suffer? They do everything they can to put a winning team on the ice each year, and the NHL is dead set on putting an end to this. I would rather see a group of star players playing for a real team in front of real fans rather than have those 4 stars spread amongst 4 different teams so the 6,000 fans in attendance can watch and discuss whether or not their player will sign for less money to stay in the city. The loser teams are ruining the sport, get rid of them and their penny-pinching owners.

Know your facts--9 teams were over the 42.5 million in spending. There are 30 teams. Don't blame this on the cities. Not every team can be an Original 6 club, so get over your Ranger loving self (and I am a Chicago fan for the record). It's not the fans fault. There is blame on both sides--player greed, owner irresponsibility. The owners drove the prices on marginal players through the roof. They created the problem, the players benfitted, the owners want to regain the control (which is their right), the players refused.

At the end of the day, the whole thing sucks.

Less than a third of the teams, and being at 42.5 million was not good enough to save the season anyway. Everyone is looking at this all wrong. The players agreeing to the cap could kill this sport. Fans want to see great teams stocked with great players. We have too many 3rd tier teams trying to convince fans that Brindamour, Cole, Bayda vs JP Dumont and Mike Grier is a quality match-up. No wonder they don’t show up. Expansion has shown potential fans shitty hockey, and turned them away. I don’t want the league to have a cap and get all comfortable and decide to stick a team in Portland and Cuba. There are enough crap teams out there that can’t afford a decent roster. Don’t blame the teams that can, get rid of the ones that can’t.

It's not just knowing what to do, it's having the ability to do it. Do you really think a salary cap is fair to the major cities? What is the cost of living in Raleigh compared to New York City? Yet we are suppossed to pay our players the same amount? Ludicrous.

11 years ago....gimme a break. They ain't peed a drop since. In the NFL, all teams (Green Bay to the Jets) can only spend the same amount. parity. no owners crying poor. players happy with it. Thats bad why?

I saw Solarte quote you tonight, he even said something about the coach being cute

And I'd take 28 NHL games over an ECHL season any day

The fans want to be able to afford to see great teams stocked with great players. If I took my kids to see a Ranger game it would cost 500+ with tix, parking, food, fuel. Not a way to run a business. The owners are correct, and should stick to their guns. The NHL doesn't have the fan base that the NFL, NBA, MLB have, nor does it have the TV endorsements.
