Staley and Trotter both played in limited roles this year. Staley was hurt all year and was supplanted by Bettis. Trotter was not starting half the year.

yes, and I'm fairly sure that you could look up the defensive stats and they improved drastically once Trotter started.

Bettis was healthy and was on a hot streak. I don't suppose it's easy to sit a 14,000 yard back when he's getting 100 yard games in relief of the starter, no matter who the starter is.

I got to belive that we can score a deal that gives him $10m bonus pays him $5.0M per year avg and give him a reasonable incentive package to get that magic number.

A mil a year in incentives isn't a lot to ask, no. I could see us doing that. I don't see the agent "calmly mentioning" $7 mil/year to someone and expecting that deal to get done, that's a bargaining chip.

When an agent throws numbers out there like that its just like selling your house. Thats the most you are going to get for it. I think Mags is right. 5 years slightly over 30 Million. Its still more than Smith got. Fox should do it just to give Smitty something to be pissed off about next year.

I have always loved Joe Banner as a GM. Moose is over 30 and wants big money. Philly would let him walk. Philly has been a damn good competitive team for the last 5 years by making tough calls like this. We have been a perenially average to poor team (throwing out last year) by shelling out dough to old geezers. Making this call will be just as tough on us as letting Troy Vincent walk was for Philly. Incidentally, Lito Sheppard made the Pro Bowl and Sheldon Brown played pretty damn good opposite him. You let the old guys walk and groom the young guys to take their place. 35 mil is nuts, and I hope to God we don't pay anywhere close to it. Let him walk. Get some young talent in. Don't be Jon Gruden.
