Is there a "rank" in making calls? I ask because of the last pass int call. ref #2 was 10' away and made no call, ref #98 (may he burn eternally in hell) said pass int. how can the ref that's not in position overrule a ref that IS in position?

I think there is, however I wouldn't know what that rank is.

I agree, the ref who said it wasn't, seemed to be in position. Wesley made note of that himself in postgame, that one said it was, one that it wasn't, and that he was overruled.

I was closer to the play then ref #98 was. I agree the closest ref was correct on the no call.

I called it B.S. and the loud but polite Raider fan behind me didn't agrue and I thought looked a bit sheepish.

we got a gift or two, too. Theirs just came at a great time.

Honestly, I can't say Wesley had a bad game because of that. He did let Ronald Freaking Curry behind him for a first down though.

All I can say is that I've seen a CB put his arm in front of a WR while both were running about 100 times, and its been called EVERY time. We got that call about 3 times in the game. I thought it was interference. I don't think Fox is doing his players any favors by telling them they're just getting bad calls. Kind of encourages to repeat the behavior that almost always gets called, whether we agree that it should be a penalty or not.

The referee outranks everyone. Generally, they get together and see who had the best view. Its not nec the one who is closest. If a ref was 10 feet away and couldnt see the arm in front, and a ref farther away says I saw an arm bar (arm in front) then they will go with the one that saw the penalty over the one whose view was blocked.

to me, the problem was that he was obviously playing the man. the arm bar is probably not going to get called with a little effort to act as if your playing the ball. right now, calls are going against cause we are doing so many stupid things the refs are expecting us to do something stupid on every play. as they say, when you're playing well, you get the benefit of the doubt on occasion, when not you never do and you get a lot of pretty questionable calls.

In a related question, what in the flaming Hades does it take to get an offensive holding call on a team playing against us?

I'm familiar with the old "holding on every play" saying, and I'm not normally a ref basher, but it seems like I have seen some absolutely flagrant stuff go uncalled in nearly every game. My game watching buddy (a Cowboy fan) has seen it as well.

Right. They don't have replay. They go on cues. Arm bars, not playing the ball. Dumb. I don't think the refs would be favoring the Raiders, a team that self destructs more than us. They just have more good plays to offset.

good point. they were calling lots of stuff on both sides. their DBs were getting called every other play. but the point i still thinks stands. a good team/player mite get the benefit of the doubt on that play. the panthers and wesley won't.
