    Sometimes here, sometimes there
Actually George Strait was really good after 1980.

Clint Black and Lyle Lovett's first albums were also good.

    So I am 98.763% correct.

    Clint Black - Better Man

Clint Black - Better Man (1989)

    Acid Washed Jeans. Ok Boomer.

What do you say when it's over?
I don't know if I should say anything at all
One day we're rollin' in the clover
Next thing, you know, we take the fall

Still, I think about the years since I first met you
And the way it might have been without you here
I don't know if words from me can still upset you
But I've just gotta make this memory stand clear

I know I'm leavin' here a better man
    For knowin' you this way
Things I couldn't do before now I think I can
And I'm leavin' here a better man

    I guess, I always knew I couldn't hold you
But I'd never be the one to set you free
Just like some old nursery rhyme your Mama told you
You still believe in some old, 'Meant to be'

Still, I'm leavin' here a better man
    For knowin' you this way
Things I couldn't do before now I think I can
And I'm leavin' here a better man

Yes, I'm leavin' here a better man
    For knowin' you this way
Things I couldn't do before now I know I can
And I'm leavin' here a better man
    (Ooo ooo ooo)
Yes, I'm leavin' here a better man

Lyle Lovett - If I Had a Boat

    Lyle Lovett - If I Had a Boat (1987)

    "If I Had A Boat"

    If I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
    And we could all together
    Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat

    If I were Roy Rogers
    I'd sure enough be single
I couldn't bring myself to marrying old Dale
It'd just be me and trigger
We'd go riding through them movies
Then we'd buy a boat and on the sea we'd sail

And if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
    And we could all together
    Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat

The mystery masked man was smart
    He got himself a Tonto
'Cause Tonto did the dirty work for free
    But Tonto he was smarter
And one day said kemo sabe
Kiss my ass I bought a boat
    I'm going out to sea

And if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
    And we could all together
    Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat

And if I were like lightning
    I wouldn't need no sneakers
I'd come and go wherever I would please
And I'd scare 'em by the shade tree
And I'd scare 'em by the light pole
But I would not scare my pony on my boat out on the sea

And if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
    And we could all together
    Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat

    Pearl Jam - Better Man

Pearl Jam - Better Man (1994)

    "Better Man"

Waitin', watchin' the clock, it's four o'clock, it's got to stop
Tell him, take no more, she practices her speech
As he opens the door, she rolls over
Pretends to sleep as he looks her over

She lies and says she's in love with him, can't find a better man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can't find a better man
    Can't find a better man
    Can't find a better man

Talkin' to herself, there's no one else who needs to know
    She tells herself

Memories back when she was bold and strong
And waiting for the world to come along
Swears she knew him, now she swears he's gone

She lies and says she's in love with him, can't find a better man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can't find a better man

She lies and says she still loves him, can't find a better man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can't find a better man
    Can't find a better man
    Can't find a better man

She loved him, she don't want to leave this way
She feeds him, that's why she'll be back again

    Can't find a better man
    Can't find a better man
    Can't find a better man
    Can't find a better man

This song reminds me of my freshman and sophomore years in high school in Katy, Tx. I worked all four years at my next door neighbor's commercial AC compressor repair shop. But I only rode with him every morning to work during the summer during the first two years. He knew my mom and dad and was a white haired guy with a big belly. He was soft spoken and always listened to country music. He almost never talked. And when the commercials came on, he would reach over and turn down the volume knob to where you could barely hear it. But he would turn back up when the music played. Even today, I still turn down the volume down when the commercials come on.

George Strait - Amarillo By Morning

George Strait - Amarillo By Morning (1982)

    "Amarillo By Morning"

Amarillo by morning, up from San Antone
Everything that I've got is just what I've got on
When that sun is high in that Texas sky
I'll be bucking at the county fair
Amarillo by morning, Amarillo I'll be there

They took my saddle in Houston, broke my leg in Santa Fe
Lost my wife and a girlfriend somewhere along the way
Well I'll be looking for eight when they pull that gate
And I hope that judge ain't blind
Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's on my mind

Amarillo by morning, up from San Antone
Everything that I've got is just what I've got on
I ain't got a dime, but what I got is mine
    I ain't rich, but Lord I'm free
Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's where I'll be
Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's where I'll be

Song of the South...it's not about Einstein's field equations, the existence of Bigfoot, or peace in the Middle East. It's about sweet potato pie. Which is awesome.

Alabama speaks for you, does it not?

Alabama - Song of the South

Alabama - Song of the South (1989)

    "Song Of The South"

    Song, song of the south
Sweet potato pie, and I shut my mouth
    Gone, gone with the wind
There ain't nobody looking back again

Cotton on roadside, cotton in the ditch
We all picked the cotton but we never got rich
Daddy was a veteran, a southern democrat
They oughta get a rich man to vote like that singing

    Song, song of the south
Sweet potato pie, and I shut my mouth
    Gone, gone with the wind
There ain't nobody looking back again

Well somebody told us Wall Street fell
But we were so poor that we couldn't tell
The cotton was short, and the weeds was' tall
But Mr. Roosevelt's a'gonna save us all

Well momma got sick, and daddy got down
The county got the farm, and we moved to town
Poppa got a job with the TVA
We bought a washing machine, and then a Chevrolet

    Singing
    Song, song of the south
Sweet potato pie, and I shut my mouth
    Gone, gone with the wind
There ain't nobody looking back again ...
