i just bought the netgear 1008mps router/cardbus combo for $65. if i have speed issues, i'll try the other stuff -- but honestly, a $99 laptop card doesn't sound terribly appealing. that's been the sticking point for me. the router is something like $100 or so, maybe less with a rebate. about what i'd expect to pay for a nice router. but the laptop card is the part that was killing me. i could have gotten a wireless g card for the laptop and gotten a mimo router, but that would have been pointless.

i'm hoping the router is essentially the same as their prosafe vpn firewall router, so i can dump it. i've got a gig switch plugged into the prosafe router already. i don't wanna have to plug the wireless router into the prosafe router as well. of course, the wireless router is only 4 ports so i'll have to see...

Yes. And more importantly, Cisco AiroNet is not meant for home environments - it has features and tolerances that are totally unnecessary for home, and it lacks the range improvements of MIMO...

And more importantly, MIMO is just another unnecessary "add-on" to technology that I would say a good 75% of people do not even need.

Not with most of the G technology.

Only people who try to surf in their backyard or across the street at the neighbor's house, who is probably stealing/using your connection also.

Those people (i.e. 25% or less) are the one's who should take advantage of this technology.

I have zero issues inside the house with the Linksys G router.

good for you. G has no more range (actually usually a little less if you want full speed) than B. And plenty of people have trouble with either - everyone in my neighborhood with older houses. That's why MIMO, high-gain antennas, and people with tin-foil exist...
