WAAAAAAAAAY too much money there, but they've already said they won't be franchising Jones this year... probably because the tag will be needed for Alexander.

Holmgren is really struggling up there. This was supposed to be their year to make a run at a title but they are mediocre at best.

He's only 2 years and a few months older than Foster and he seems to be more of a Henning type back than Foster.

He has some mileage on him and more than that he is going to command a huge contract. If he were to come here and flop it would be similar to Gilbert's affect on us.

This will have been his fourth year starting and 5th year in the league. 1100 carries in a career isn't a critical point tending toward fatality. I don't want to spend that money on a back that will get misused here anyway, but it's not correct to write him off right now as a back in this league.

Tailback plays in Seattle and fancies Miami

    By Alex Marvez
    and Harvey Fialkov Staff Writers
    Posted November 18 2004

DAVIE ยท Just a reminder: Shaun Alexander will be playing for Seattle on Sunday against the Dolphins.

In a conference call, it seemed like Alexander was just as eager to be with the Dolphins in 2005 as Seattle, which may allow one of the NFL's top young tailbacks to leave as an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

"We all know about coach [Don] Shula and the legacy he had there, and we know about the great town for football that's in Miami," Alexander said Wednesday.

"My first NFL game was in Miami [a 23-0 Dolphins victory in the 2000 opener].

"I thought, `Wow, if every team is like Miami, then it's going to be a rough year for us.' And it was a rough year for us, because we were bad. Miami's always got this special feel for me because it was the first NFL game I got to play in."

It's fair to question, though, whether such feelings will be mutual.

Alexander -- who has an NFL-best four games with 150-plus rushing yards -- could hit the free-agent market if Seattle (5-4) continues to show more interest in re-signing quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and left tackle Walter Jones.

But the Dolphins may be hesitant to invest in a big-money tailback like Alexander or Indianapolis' Edgerrin James, who also is slated for free agency.

Depending on who is running the franchise, the Dolphins may try signing a more modestly priced tailback like Chicago's Anthony Thomas or the New York Jets' LaMont Jordan because Sammy Morris and Lamar Gordon are under contract through 2005.

Still, that won't keep Alexander from dreaming about playing in a warmer climate.

"My wife and I talked before the season started about possible trades and things like that," Alexander said.

"Florida is one of her favorite states to go visit, so it's possible. It's a business, so we'll do what's best for our family and future. If it happens to be Miami, It'll be exciting."

Asked whether the Dolphins (1-8) are still an attractive team to players, Alexander replied, "No doubt."

He then laughed and said, "Did I answer that too fast?"
