Alexander is similar to needing a new SUV and buying a suburban with ninety thousand miles on it. It is a nice car and can do things others can't but in the long run that Rodeo with ten thousand miles is a better idea.

Don't really know that I agree with that. I think he'll have productive years left - not ten, but enough that the team that gets him will be rewarded.

IF this team really wants to be a run it first offense Shaun Alexander would be the perfect back for this system. He has power and vision. He is not purely a bruiser that runs it up the middle RB like Davis; and he is not a hit the hole fast or run it to the outside like Foster. I think Alexander is a great mixture of the two. Did anyone see the piece that Fox did on him last week during pregame ( I think it was Fox). It was really good, it gave insight to how many plays he is told where to run and on some plays Holmgren gives Alexander the freedom to create a run himself. i thought it was cool. He has great vision.

How good would the panthers be next season IF we do 2 things:

    1. Aquire a good RT for the O-line and a good Guard(either FA or Draft)
    2. Somehow aquired Shaun Alexander

This would make our team especially scary with Steve Smith back (hope he comes back 100%), Keary Colbert getting experience this year, and Moose or Prohel comes back. Is it possible that our Offense could become feared? We have never really been feared, even last year.

I know this is all a pipe dream, but hey, dream big. Can someone tell me why this team NEVER signs a big free agent? Is it because of the Gilbert debacle? I think that we really hurt ourselves by always overlooking bigger named FA'severy single year. If Hurney would have signed some productive FA's instead of a bunch of econo-scrubs that are already gone we would have been in better shape. I won't hold my breath on Alexander :( , but I can dream.

I would be afraid of giving Alexander big money. Used running backs usually break down quick, see Stephen Davis.

I understand that train of thought, but Alexander has been realtively heathly his whole career, I think. However, Davis has missed alot of games during his career. I think Alexander would be well worth the money OR maybe we could draft Ronnie Brown or Cedric Benson. I just feel that we NEED a dependable real stud at RB. I really like Alexander, but if we had a can't miss (if there is such a thing) rookie RB that would be ok.

Davis had an injury the year before we got him but before that he was healthy. He had an arm or shoulder thing that year not a bad knee or anything.

I agree Alexander has more left than Davis did but he will cost a whole lot more too...
